April 2009 Newsletter
Next Meeting: at the Overlake Round Table Pizza Restaurant Tuesday, April 28th, 7:00pm
DUES: If you are reading this off of the web site because you did not receive a newsletter, that is because your name was dropped from the mailing list because your membership was not renewed by the posting time.
March Meeting: Ernie Anderson and Mark Gavin shared their knowledge of the Lower Columbia Springer fishery. They included what one needs know to find these treasured salmon, including where, when, and how. Cast For Kids: Jim Grimes has coordinated with the Cast For Kids Foundation for May 16th at Seward Park in Seattle. So far five club members have signed up. Jim will fill in the details at the meeting. Winter Steelhead Contest: We are quickly running out of time to catch steelhead to enter into the Winter Steelhead contest. Keep Grimes posted on your successes on the rivers through the end of April. The person with the largest Steelhead of the season will get the coveted perpetual trophy plaque to display for the following year. All participants will be eligible for the drawing for a fine fishing rod. Awards will be presented at the Summer Picnic in July.
Sturgeon Trip: Be sure to bring your checkbook, the $45.00 deposits (whether you are fishing one or both days) are due this month. Don Oster has booked the “Northern” out of Ilwaco’s Pacific Charters for Friday and Saturday, June 12th and 13th. The boat will hold sixteen. The time and tides should be favorable for and excited couple of days of sturgeon fishing. Be sure to sign-up with Don before all the space is gone. At posting time all but one spot was reserved. Don might also entertain a standby list.
Lead Pouring Party: John Dunkel has volunteered to provide lead for club members to pour anchors and weights. He would like to make this a social event rather than just a convenience to the members. It was suggested that since this should be an outdoor activity, we could have a bar-be-cue. We can discuss about when and where at the meeting.
July Picnic: Ernie Anderson has secured the Red Barn at McDonald’s Park in Carnation for our regular July meeting date, the 28th. We will be working out the details over the next few months. As in the past we will divvy the pot luck assignment based on the members last names; those with last names starting with A thru G will bring cold dishes and those with names H thru Z will bring hot dishes.
